Q: What form does the interview take?
A: We do not use assessment-centres or competency-based exercises, instead our interviews are discussion-based to gauge you as an individual along with the skills and knowledge you possess to identify how they can might align in a role within Optimus.

Q: Where will I be based?
A: You will be based within our office in Aberdeen. There may be an opportunity to work at our Inverness office dependent on our clients’ requirements.

Q: When will I start, and are dates flexible?
A: You will most likely begin your graduate role in September, but yes, there is some flexibility in this by prior mutual agreement.

Summer positions generally start towards the end of June though again there is a degree of flexibility to the dates.

Q: Are there international/travel opportunities?
A: For summer placements, this is unlikely. However, some of our recent graduates have been required to travel abroad to work on projects for some of our clients.

Q: Will I work offshore?
A: The majority of your work will be based onshore, however there may be opportunities to go offshore for surveys and other similar work. Relevant training will be provided to you should you be required to conduct work offshore.

Q: Do you have an accredited chartership scheme?
A: We do not currently have an accredited chartership scheme; however, we recognise the importance the industry places on chartered engineer status and as such we endeavour to provide our engineers with the support and backing required to reach this goal. Several of our graduate engineers have successfully achieved chartered engineer status whilst working with us.

Q: I have missed the application deadline may I still apply for a role with Optimus?
A: We strongly encourage candidates to submit applications within the October to December window as any applications received outside of this time are not guaranteed to be reviewed.

Should we have any vacancies for graduate engineers outwith this standard time frame, the roles will be advertised on our general recruitment page. Please note that this is not a regular occurrence.
